As of December 2009, more than 320 million HP LaserJet and HP inkjet print cartridges have been returned and recycled worldwide since the program began in 1991, representing a weight of nearly 390 million pounds. Those cartridges could fill nearly 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

HP makes it easy for customers to participate - no matter where they live. As of December 2009, HP LaserJet print cartridge return and recycling is available to HP customers in more than 50 countries, regions and territories around the world, covering 90% of the addressable market.

HP has developed an engineering breakthrough that enables the use of post-consumer recycled plastics in the production of new Original HP inkjet print cartridges.

The myth of remanufactured cartridges:
Some may think that remanufactured cartridges are better for the environment. However, with remanufactured cartridges you need to know what actually happens with the cartridges when returned. Here are some stats from an InfoTrends study*:
21% of toner and 41% of ink cartridges collected by remanufacturers can't be profitably remanufactured 60% of the unusable ink and 71% of the unusable toner cartridges and replacement parts go to a landfill.
Original HP cartridges returned through HP Planet Partners are never sent to a landfill.
